【Nagano / Saku City】
The world’s first sake brewery hotel, KURABITO STAY, offers a full-fledged brewery experience and accommodation service.
In this program, you stay at a sake brewery hotel, KURABITO STAY and experience making Koji for amazake or sparkling Sake.
You can learn about Koji, which is very important in Japanese food culture.
The Saku area of Nagano prefecture is one of Japan’s leading sake breweries. It is dotted with 13 sake breweries that have been there since the Edo period. Good access from Tokyo by Shinkansen in just under an hour is also attractive.
With the cooperation of Kitsukura Shuzo, one of the oldest brewers, you will be involved in making amazake koji, which is actually sold as a product, as one of the brewers.
Since ancient times, sake brewing has been considered to be a collaboration with God. Therefore, firstly you keep the sake brewery clean before starting work. Then, after receiving the “Shinto ritual” by the priest of the shrine, you enter the brewery. The work that you can experience is rice washing and making Koji, which is very important in sake brewing.
Kurabito Stay
For dinner on the day of arrival, everyone will have a special menu of sake at a nearby Japanese restaurant. The breakfast will be “Kurodo no Kenko Breakfast”.
For meals other than breakfast on the second day, enjoy the local gourmet food in the shopping district around the sake brewery. Shinshu soba and the famous roast chicken are popular.
The sake brewery hotel is a renovation of a 100-year-old building where brewers (a group of sake brewers) used to sleep, and has been renovated into a private room with a key that even one female can stay with peace of mind.
